[Texte disponible uniquement en anglais] Francesca Fini is an Italian interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, performer, and AI creative producer whose practice explores the shifting boundaries between body and machine, organic and synthetic, presence and simulation. Working across experimental cinema, performance, installation, digital environments, artificial intelligence, 3D animation, augmented reality, and virtual reality, she develops hybrid works in which technological experimentation intersects with a strongly physical and performative approach.

With a background in directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, and film production, Fini brings a cinematic sensibility to a practice deeply rooted in performance. The body remains a central element of her research: a space of transformation through which she investigates identity, memory, perception, technology, and the unstable relationship between human and artificial.

Her work has been presented internationally at institutions, exhibitions, and festivals including WRO Biennale, FILE Electronic Language International Festival, Japan Media Arts Festival, Videoformes, MAXXI and MACRO in Rome, MEM Festival at the Guggenheim Bilbao, and BODY + CAMERA at MANA Contemporary Chicago. She participated in the first Venice International Performance Art Week and was an artist-in-residence at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in New York in 2014 and 2016.

In 2016, she wrote and directed Ophelia Did Not Drown, an experimental feature film combining historical footage from the Istituto Luce Cinecittà archive with contemporary performative language. Her artistic research has subsequently expanded towards immersive and virtual environments, digital animation, and increasingly towards artificial intelligence as a medium for moving image, performance, and visual storytelling.

In her recent practice, Fini approaches artificial intelligence not as a tool for producing seamless images, but as an unstable creative territory through which questions of authorship, embodiment, identity, and transformation can be reconsidered. Her AI-based works combine generative processes with drawing, performance, cinema, 3D environments, and the extensive personal visual archive accumulated throughout her career.

In 2024, she was invited by Academy Award-winning artist and designer John Gaeta to present her work on Escape, his NeoCinema platform. In 2026, her AI work was exhibited at the Ras Al Khaimah Contemporary Art Biennale, and she was included in the Leonardo AI Power List of the 50 most influential women in AI cinema. Her continuing research brings together physical gesture and computational image, exploring technology as a space in which new forms of presence, narrative, and visual imagination can emerge.
