What is roBOt Festival?
roBOt: an international festival, this year being it’s fourth, where new forms of art, experimentation and entertainment are faced as a challenge, the analysis of a world where social, beauty and the ideal is continuously changing in reality and in daily life thanks to the evolution of science, art and technology.

Call4roBOt
New technology and new forms of artistic expression call for new players capable of putting into practice new ways of working.
The collective imagination is radically changed. The IT expert, in mind the capacity of technological intelligence, assumes new value, no more an individual autistically confined in the intricacy of cybernetics, but centrally focused in the challenge of self-production, of the distribution of old performative networks and distribution, in the genesis of new models of interaction between the performer and the public. The artist has to therefore follow this example, assuming up to date skills necessary to represent a plausible ideal of the future.
roBOt votes for whoever puts themselves out there, facing new contemporary art with a pioneering and innovative spirit, those able to interact with technology. A work that elaborates the knowledge and awareness of new media, but treats it with a deeply emotional approach, emphatic, that is able to make an emotional effect on the audience, generate discussions about the artistic work, participation, an impending zeitgeist.

Promoters
roBOt is promoted by Shape Cultural Association with the support of Regione Emilia-Romagna, Comune di Bologna and Provincia di Bologna. With an increasing growth in effort, hard work, acceptance and a forever more sophisticated projection on a national and international scale, Shape has been handling contemporary music culture in the area of Bologna for many years. Every activity created and produced has the goal of increasing the value the city and finds its maximum expression in the festival. A long term project to boost the city is necessary to let the world and the city itself discover the intellectual, social and cultural resources available here. Shape strongly believes that these initiatives benefit the city enormously, not only in terms of economical growth but also, and above all, culturally.

Festival theme
Keep in touch,be connected

“The limits of my language represent the limits of my world.
The Thinker resembles the drawer that wants to reproduce in the drawing all the possible connections.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein, Tractatus logico-philosophicus, 1921

The main components of a network are the relational connections.
The elementary particle that forms the relational net is the coexistence of two active and conscious entities that, intentionally or not, share information through their own perceptual and decoding systems.
All the living organisms known, however, communicate esclusively through non verbal means, except for some members of the Homo Sapiens species that are able of communicating, simultaneously or per turns, by verbal and nonverbal means.
According to linguists, more than the 90% of daily communication, also in humans, happens in a non verbal way.

Paralinguistic and kinesthetic system; proxemics and haptics; symbology, iconography and semiotics; attitude, behavior; phono acoustic, chemics and physics are just a few of the non verbal components that form the complex natural system of communication between humans; translation, decoding, filtering, and empathy fall within the group of strategies of capturing and learning the information received from external elements.
With the growth of networks and sharing systems, the modernity has changed the way in which we are positioned within the flow of information, providing to individuals new tools of multimedial transmission.
For the 2012 edition, roBOt wants to learn the language of future, the multitude of non verbal and multimedial systems that make possible the exchange of information, which means the communicative ability of every single entity within the interconnected global network. This year roBOt will try to represent, through the cognitive instrument of artistic research, the needs of a society more and more technological and computerized, in which it is essential to understand the dynamics of transmission and interpretation of the new forms of communication.
